The coronavirus has landed and it's here to stay. On Friday, March 13, 2020, the minister of education announced that schools would be closed for an additional two weeks following March break in an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Social distancing was to begin and people were to stay inside and shop as little as possible.
Hoarding of toilet paper began. Flour came next. Yeast and other essentials are barely found on store shelves. Yet, despite the hoarding, the social distancing isn't sticking. People are still going out, socializing - some people complaining of parties happening at neighbors' houses.
The government responded. Fines would be issued for anyone found in groups of 10 or more. The people STILL didn't listen. Parks were closed and caution tape put up. The people STILL didn't listen. Now fines would be issued for anyone found in groups of 5 or more. Fines will be issued for anyone tampering with caution tape or found playing in public parks.

Gas prices at a record low between .60-.72 cents a liter. Self-distancing measures on a rise. Tape on the floors at grocery stores and others to help distance shoppers 2m-6ft from each other, a limited number of people inside stores, therefore, lineups outside the store doors. Non-essential stores and businesses mandated closed, parks, trails, entire cities locked up. Schools all closed. Shortage of masks, gowns, gloves for our frontline workers. Shortage of respirators for the critically Ill. Panic buying sets in and we have no toilet paper, no disinfecting supplies, no paper towel no laundry soap, no hand sanitizer shelves were bare. Essential businesses switch their lines to help make visors, masks, hand sanitizer and PPE. The government closed the border to all non-essential travel, called Canadians home and made it mandatory to self isolate for 14 days. Fines were established for breaking the rules. Ford set fines for those gauging others. Stadiums and recreation facilities opened up for the overflow of COVID 19 patients. Press conferences daily from both Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Ford. Government incentives to stay home. Barely anyone in the street or on the roads. People wearing masks and gloves outside. We are to distance from each other. They say it started in Wuhan China at a seafood market. Thousands affected, numbers critically ill, many recovered. This is the Novel Coronavirus COVID 19 Pandemic. Declared March.11th 2020.
And my phone has not rung with real estate ONCE, and honestly, thank goodness, because I don't want to go out with what's going on - and I certainly don't want to put my clients at risk! While I've lost my job unwillingly, my kids are now home for the entire month of April. Schools are closed until May 4th and I don't see much hope of them opening even then.
Why?
BECAUSE PEOPLE AREN'T FUCKING TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!
I don't know who you are. I don't know if you still have your job or own your own home or if you just don't give a fucking shit. But you are out there. And you know who you are. People are getting sick. REALLY sick. Healthcare workers are getting sick. People are DYING!! Grocery store employees are putting their lives at risk and the lives of their families just so we can still be FED.
And there you are. Getting together with friends. Hanging out on the street. Having people over. You don't think you are doing anything wrong. Just taking advantage of the time off you have.
Let me tell you something.
THE VIRUS DOESN'T MOVE.
Let that sink in. The virus literally does not move. It doesn't have legs. It can't walk. It doesn't have wings. It can't fly. It doesn't slither. It doesn't roll. It doesn't float. And even with technology where it's at today, it does not teleport.
IT DOESN'T FUCKING MOVE.
You know what does move?
PEOPLE!!!!! The PEOPLE carrying the virus.
And that little bitch of a virus hides out. You THINK you are safe. You THINK you are fine. Until one day, your throat hurts a little. Then the next day you start to cough. And a few days later you are in full-on COVID symptoms. And maybe you'll recover. Hopefully, you won't need to be hospitalized.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 100'S OF PEOPLE YOU INTERACTED WITH WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE FINE?!?!?!?!?!
And you came from somewhere. You have a mother and a father. And maybe they aren't that elderly. But maybe you have grandparents? An older Aunt or Uncle? Is your carelessness worth their life? Is that get together worth the funeral that WON'T happen - because it's against the law right now.
Please - I'm begging you. We all want this to be over. And the ONLY way it's going to be is if we ALL stay at home. Not inside - just AT HOME.
